Using Scratch as a platform, participants will support students in developing sub-concepts of Abstraction, including decomposition (breaking down an idea or project into smaller parts), pattern recognition (grouping portions of a project to find similarities, repetition, or conditional relationships), and modularity (chaining processes together to accomplish something more complex). Participants will learn the basics of working in Scratch and develop sample tasks for students to support mastering Abstraction and its sub-concepts.

Participants will utilize a number of different robotics kits (potential kits include Dash and Dot, Lego Mindstorms, Ozobots, and more). We will also model the use of Robot Turtles, an board game that teachers can use in their class, even if they lack access to more expensive robotics equipment. Participants will see how they can teach the sub-concepts of languages, syntax, collaboration, and development environments using robotics or Robot Turtles.
